A project Worth €4.613,00 for a cutting-edge lighting system with a 35% reduction in consumption. The artistic and monumental heritage will be enhanced
Efficient lighting, enhancement of the city’s monumental beauties and inclusive traffic management. Today marks the start of the redevelopment works that the Municipality of Oristano has entrusted to City Green Light, the energy service company and leading public lighting operator in Italy. These works will lead to a 35% reduction in energy expenditure compared to the previous situation. Consumption will decrease from 805,785.13 kWh/year to 529,172.77 kWh/year, enabling a smarter and more efficient city that can allocate greater financial resources to the common good of its citizens through energy savings.
THE PROJECT
The project, with a total investment of €4,613,729.64 from City Green Light, is inaugurated today and will result in the replacement of 5,171 lighting fixtures with the latest-generation led sources, regulatory upgrades and regular and extraordinary maintenance of the systems. A remote control system will oversee all electrical panels, ensuring greater safety and rapid response in case of emergencies or malfunctions. Improvements will also affect the traffic light system, which will see the replacement of 26 lanterns with led devices, leading to a 91% energy savings by the end of the intervention compared to the current situation. Finally, to further reduce the environmental impact of urban management, the electricity supply for public lighting will be sourced 100% from renewable sources.
“The intervention, which begins today following a complex preparatory phase that unfortunately took longer than expected, will result in savings in management, maintenance and energy bills, while also improving the quality standard of the lighting network through the adoption of new technologies. – explains the Mayor of Oristano, Massimiliano Sanna – The intervention also includes specific lighting design projects to enhance some of the most important monuments in the city center, such as the Torre San Cristoforo, Palazzo di Città and Palazzo Campus Colonna, with the redevelopment of architectural lighting using RG8 projectors for various color scenarios. Smart city services will also be implemented to offer citizens a more modern, efficient environment focused on their well-being, including the redevelopment of traffic-lighted pedestrian crossings with the solutions for the mobility of visually impaired individuals“.
“Lighting is much more than just a light. Thanks to the trust placed in us by local administrations, in Oristano we have created an intelligent and sustainable system that enhances the artistic heritage and improves the quality of life for citizens. – declares Fabrizio Ruggiero, Business Unit Director Central Italy & Additional Services at CGL – We are excited to kick off the implementation of this important project. With the latest-generation led technologies and renewable energy, we will not only drastically reduce energy consumption and environmental impact but also enhance the city’s artistic and cultural Heritage. We believe that this intervention represents a fundamental step toward a smarter, more human-centred Oristano, where innovation and sustainability go hand in hand“.
ENHANCING CULTURAL AND ARTISTIC HERITAGE
Not only energy efficiency but also the enhancement of city’s heritage. Oristano holds a significant architectural Heritage that reflects the long history of the capital, with valuable monuments and buildings such as Torre San Cristoforo, Palazzo di Città, Palazzo Scolopi and Palazzo Campus Colonna. To properly enhance these artistic treasures, the City Green Light project includes targeted interventions to improve architectural lighting using RGB projectors for various color scenarios. Additionally, to ensure more uniform lighting throughout the historic center, the new lighting fixtures will feature a warmer color temperature of 3.000K, compared to the 4.000K fixtures currently installed in the rest of the urban area.
ORISTANO TOWARDS THE SMART CITY: TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT, INCLUSION AND CITIZEN SERVICES
Sustainability is not only measured by efficiency in resource use but also by the ability to generate well-being among citizens and create inclusion. That’s why City Green Light has planned the redevelopment of traffic-lighted pedestrian crossings, with smart and technologically advanced solutions to ensure greater safety and accessibility, facilitating mobility for visually impaired individuals. Two totems, to be placed respectively in Piazza Roma and Piazza Eleonora, will also provide real-time useful information about city life: from traffic to mobility, local events and news related to public services.
Finally to promote sustainability and safety a charging station for electronic devices with an integrated defibrillator will be installed.
