- State-of-the-art LED lighting for the historic sports facility, positioning it to host major competitive and entertainment events
- More light, lower energy consumption and captivating scenes with smart projectors
Brindisi, July 31, 2024 – The “new” Franco Fanuzzi Stadium in Brindisi now features uniform and high-quality lighting, smart technologies, optimized energy consumption, and intelligent LED projectors capable of synchronizing light beams inside and outside the stadium to create choreographed lighting scenes. This lighting retrofit has been realized by City Green Light, a leading ESCO from Vicenza and the foremost private lighting operator in Italy, in collaboration with Stea Progetto, an engineering company, and Signify, a global leader in lighting.
MORE LIGHT AND LOWER CONSUMPTION
Inaugurated in 1961, the Franco Fanuzzi Stadium is the main sports facility in the city and has hosted the home matches of the local football team, Brindisi FC, since its construction. Brindisi FC recently announced the appointment of Alessandro Monticciolo as the new head coach. The lighting system upgrade is part of a broader project initiated by the city administration, aimed at enhancing both safety and the user experience of the structure, modernizing it and bringing it up to the highest competitive standards. After just eight months of work, all lighting fixtures have been replaced with LED sources, which provide better illumination (average illuminance values have more than doubled) without increasing energy consumption, and ensuring optimal conditions for television broadcasts thanks to horizontal and vertical uniformity. The new system has already been approved by the Lega Nazionale Calcio Professionistico Serie C, and is therefore ready to host Brindisi FC’s new 2024-25 season.
A BEAUTIFUL STADIUM INSIDE AND OUT
In addition to replacing 43 outdated lighting fixtures with LED sources, the intervention carried out by City Green Light has led to the installation of 6 new floodlight towers with 24 projectors specifically designed for illuminating playing fields in sports and multipurpose facilities. These devices enhance the experience for both the athletes on the field and the spectators, whether they are watching live or from home.
“For City Green Light, the refurbishment project of the Franco Fanuzzi Stadium in Brindisi represents further confirmation that sports facilities can undergo significant energy efficiency improvements and enhancements in visual comfort. Users of the facility now have access to a state-of-the-art, highly technological venue for sports events and more. The intervention, which involved the use of cutting-edge smart devices, aligns perfectly with our commitment to environmental sustainability and decarbonization, which are of paramount importance to us. We are confident that the work carried out will help make the stadium a symbol of innovation for the entire city of Brindisi“. Stated Christian Valerio, Business Unit Director Southern Italy at City Green Light.
MAGICAL NIGHTS: SMART TECHNOLOGIES FOR A “SPECTACULAR” STADIUM
All projectors are equipped with a control system that allows them to be connected to a lighting management platform. This platform is Interact Sports, an innovative software that transforms the stadium into an even more advanced and smart facility, offering the audience a unique and more thrilling sports experience. It features colorful light displays before, during, and after each competitive event. The lighting fixtures can be managed in real-time, synchronizing indoor and outdoor lights to create unprecedented light shows and provide captivating and immersive aesthetic enhancement. Additionally, alongside the creation of dynamic light spectacles, this platform enhances operator flexibility, improves efficiency during use, and optimizes maintenance needs, aligning with the latest sustainability requirements for buildings.
Finally, the new systems are equipped with backup power sources, including both generators and UPS units, to ensure uninterrupted operation even in the event of an electrical blackout, thereby enhancing safety. This ensures that the Brindisi stadium is well-positioned not only to host national and international sports competitions at night but also to accommodate entertainment events such as concerts and other cultural initiatives.
“We are proud to have contributed to the lighting redesign of an important sports venue like the Franco Fanuzzi Stadium in Brindisi, thanks to the installation of state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor LED lighting. This project not only meets the requirements to make the stadium suitable for hosting major sporting events, including the upcoming 24-’25 football season for Brindisi FC, but also aims to position it as a multifunctional venue with significant appeal for both residents and tourists. This collaboration is part of a broader portfolio of adaptable solutions tailored to their needs and the various uses of their facilities” stated Andrea Bernardini, Commercial Leader, Public Sector at Signify Italy.
“The greatest challenge was not only upgrading the Fanuzzi Stadium’s systems and lighting to meet the most stringent regulatory standards, but also ensuring its continued use and operation during the construction process. These interventions affected all infrastructures, both underground and external. Thanks to the work group, the majority of night games were conducted with full functionality and maximum safety. The completed project guarantees the full operability of all systems even in the absence of power from the public grid, through the installation of technologies that allow for extended autonomy” commented Paolo Carlini, Industrial Expert at Stea Progetto.
